Dave Martin, aged 66, was killed in a shark attack in Solana beach. This shark attack in San Diego was a rare one. It was suspected that a great white shark was responsible. This happened on Friday, about 7 am, April 25, 2008.
Shark attack experts said the great white shark attacks about 2 hours after sunrise. This fact matches with the time Dave Martin was attacked. He had massive wounds on both thighs. He was pulled under, then pushed up, and went under again. The Coroner would investigate if there were great white shark tooth fragments during the autopsy.
The group of 8 other swimmers rushed to his aid. Dave Martin was brought to shore. A helicopter was summoned to the scene. He died from massive bleeding at around 7: 49 am before anything could be done.
Solana Beach is 20 miles north of San Diego. Great white sharks do not live there. However, female sharks sometimes come up from cold waters to lay eggs before returning to the deep again.
The sheriff’s department sent its chopper to search and spot for the great white shark. An 8 mile long stretch of beach was closed to the public for 72 hours.
