Christ the Redeemer statue struck by lightning

Tuesday 12 February 2008 @ 10:22 pm

What does it mean? Why was Jesus struck by lighning? A logical explanation would be that the highest structure would be the most vulnerable structure to be hit. It is not the end of the world. Maybe you have a better idea?

Statue in Rido de Janeiro, Brazil, at 130 feet was acclaimed as one of the Seven Wonders Of The World in 2007.

Joe Dinsdale, Nicholas Baty, David Burns

Drunken people killed innocent victims and good Samaritans. Nick Baty’s daughter, Katy Baty, 12, pleaded for the end to violence. Her parents were already separated when her Dad was murdered by a gangster/bully as he stopped to help an injured victim on the road. The blame was on drugs, 24-hour drinking licence and police problems.

Debate on arranged & in-breeding marriages (2 examples)

Monday 11 February 2008 @ 7:45 pm

Khaleda Begum, 25, lived in the UK but her Muslim parents forced her to marry her Dad’s cousin, who was 20 years older than her. She said another girl cousin married a cousin and had a deformed babe who died. The doctor who attended the death said it could have been genetic mutation due to in-breeding. Well, kids born from incestuous relationships sometimes have severe mutations but sometimes came out normal.

Khaleda Begum
Khaleda ran away from her arranged marriage and lives with her preferred lover now.

The UK MP who brought up the problem of in-breeding is certainly right and not as outrageous as he was made out to be. Genetic mutations have been known for a long time.

Dr. Rowan Williams suggests Sariah law for UK

Monday 11 February 2008 @ 4:35 am

If the UK were to make allowances for religious law, then other countries might have to follow suit. What a Pandora’s box he has opened.

The counter argument was that there should be no exceptions to the civil law. What if a non-Muslim was forcibly subjected to the Syariah law?

Religious debate on Muslim marriages

Sunday 10 February 2008 @ 4:25 pm

UK environment minister Phil Woolas warned that the Muslim cultural practice of marriage between cousins might cause genetic birth defects.

It looked like a timely intervention just when the debate was on about the use of Syriah law in the UK. It was akin to hitching a ride on the bandwagon.
