Vladimir Putin was targetted by Shakhvelad Osmanov.
Moscow’s Tvoi Den newspaper said that secret service Kremlin agents captured a man with a sniper rifle. The suspect was at a flat overlooking Red Square. This report was on March 15, 2008.
However, Interfax, another Russian news agency, quoted an official from the FSB saying that the first report was false.
The first report said that the suspect was identified as Shakhvelad Osmanov, 24, from Tajikistan. When security officers raided the flat 4 hours before Putin was scheduled to speak at the Red Square, , they found that it contained an arsenal of firepower.
